This JuuriJuhla club night transports the audience to the sunny atmosphere of our archipelago through music. The performers are Aspö Spelmän and the duo Maria Kalaniemi & Pekka Pentikäinen.
The evening begins with a concert and concludes with dancing. A buffet is also available at Thorstorp.
Aspö Spelmän
Aspö is a small island in the Archipelago Sea known for its musical spirit. While only about a dozen residents live there year-round, the island fills with sailors and summer cottage visitors during the warmer months. Music is an integral part of the summer experience on Aspö; the island’s Midsummer and Aspö Music Day celebrations are legendary events brimming with music.
Music has long been a part of life on Aspö, woven into the fabric of everyday existence. To this day, the musical tradition is passed down from generation to generation. The island was home to, among others, the violinist and Master Folk Musician known as “Aspö-Erik.” In 2022, another islander, Tore Johansson, was awarded the title of Master Folk Musician.
The core of the Aspö Spelmän group consists of the Johansson family—Tore, Markus, and Johan—often joined by other musicians from the extended family. Their concert features a mix of traditional and contemporary archipelago tunes, performed in the unique style of the region. Aspö Spelmän released an album in 2026.

Pekka Pentikäinen, a folk musician and accordion artist from Espoo, has sailed the length and breadth of the archipelago; the beautiful island of Aspö, located in the heart of the Archipelago Sea National Park, has become a special favorite of his.
Maria Kalaniemi—Artistic Director of JuuriJuhla-RotFest and also an accordion artist from Espoo—has likewise fallen deeply in love with our beautiful archipelago. Her favorite spots include Aspö and Utö, where she spends extended periods in both summer and winter, discovering new musical inspirations along the way.
From these islands, Pekka and Maria have picked up numerous archipelago melodies, which will be performed in this concert.
